Pope Francis asks for forgiveness of debt owed by poor countries

Following the warning by World Bank last month that coronavirus may have caused 100 million people to slide into extreme poverty, Pope Francis has asked for cancellation of the debt owed by poor countries. 

The head of the Catholic church had earlier called for debt reduction or cancellation for the most vulnerable countries in April at the start of the pandemic.
