The House of Representatives has called for demolition of buildings and other structures under high-tension power lines across Nigeria, as such has caused electrocution of many Nigerians who met their untimely deaths as a result of either doing business or building under high-tension electric cables.
This is following a motion by Kolawole Musibau, at the plenary today, March 24, titled, "Need to Enforce the Law Forbidding Erection of Buildings and Structures under High Tension Electric Cables." The House urged Nigerians to maintain existing laws of 50m distance apart from power cables and construction of buildings. The House also urged the Ministry of Power to ensure the maintenance of high-tension cables as they are time bound, and to carry out repairs and maintenance not just when an accident occurs.
