"Meter Bypass is punishable by 21-years inprisonment in Nigeria" - Arome Abu



Arome Abu, a lawyer, in his obscure legal facts publication today, wrote that in Nigeria, it is an offence to unlawfully gain access to electricity, either by tampering or meter bypass.

The penalty for such is listed below;

•21 Years imprisonment.

•Payment of reconnection cost and administrative charges.

•Payment for loss of revenue by the Discos for the unauthorized consumption by paying back Bills.

His orders are on section 1(10) of the miscellaneous offences act. Order 2 of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission order on unauthorized tampering and bypass order no: NERC/REG/41/2017
