The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced a stop to the selling of Foreign Exchange (FX) to Bureaus de Change (BDC) nationwide because the BDCs have made themselves conduit pipes for illegal funds and money laundering as well as facilitating graft and corruption. The CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, during the Monetary Policy Committee meeting in Abuja on Tuesday also lamented that about 5,000 applications was received by the CBN every month for BDC registration noting that several BDCs are owned by the same promoters in order to obtain multiple Forex from the CBN. From now on, the CBN will only sell Forex to commercial banks who in turn have been directed to sell the dollars,etc to every customer with legitimate needs.
