Punch reports that Nigeria's Ambassador to the Benin Republic, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd.), was instrumental in the arrest of Sunday Igboho and his wife. This is according to a top security source in Benin
Republic who said that Buratai sent a secret letter to the Benin Republic government,
through the Nigerian Embassy, which made them to be on the lookout for Igboho.
Igboho’s passport also raised suspicion but he was able to escape with his wife
when they were stopped and a discussion ensued. They breathed a sigh of relief
until their travel agent called to lure them to return to the airport saying they can now board a plane
to Germany as the matter has been resolved. They were arrested immediately they
returned.
