N200 for cars, N500 for trucks - FEC approves new tollgates policy nationwide


The minister of works and housing, Babatunde Fashola,  disclosed at a media briefing on Wednesday that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a new policy for tollgates nationwide after discussions on the use of tollgates for concessionaires to recoup investments, under a new arrangement through the new Highway Development and Management Initiative (HDMI) and extensive consultations with various stakeholders within and outside the Government, including Transport Unions like NURTW, NARTO, RTEAN. The tolling system will prioritise the use of technology and recommended tolling fees for vehicles are as follows: “Cars: N200; SUVs: N300; Private Buses: N300; Commercial Buses: N150, and Luxury Buses and Trucks: N500”. The Minister says it won't start until roads are motorable and bicycles and military vehicles are exempted while discounts apply to those living around the tollgates.
