When you hear about a gaming arcade for kids in Kubwa, what comes to
your mind is race cars, power bikes and X-box, right?
Well, not if you’ve been to the LYNDEM EDUTAINMENT place at Kabom Court, 104 Gado Nasko Way, immediately after the Phase IV bridge. Here, a new concept of using entertainment to teach kids, aged between 2 – 10 years, is sparking a lot of interest in many people and proves true that when kids are being entertained, they listen and keep listening.
On my first visit to LYNDEM,
after I didn’t see motorcars or bikes, I was instead struck by the thorough way
the founder, Bassey Onwuanaku, uses to teach and play educational games. Take for
example, I was placed in front of an Alpabet Puzzle that won’t accept any other
object until you fit in letter “A” and an Apple in the beginning so that you
quickly remember that A is for Apple!
Inspired by her own early
exposure to educational toys that made her a super-performer in every class,
Bassey desires to impact children positively and reveals her own love for her
mother whom she lost when she was a teenager by naming LYNDEM in her
memory. Plus, she’s so passionate about
this that when she visits a school with her toys, most kids will gist their
parents about her until the parents want to meet her at the next school event.
LYNDEM EDUTAINMENT is definitely
different from school. It’s fun where school is work. While it reinforces what
they have been taught in school, it also injects fun into the art of learning
for the kids. It is also not for long hours and so discourages parents from
dumping their kids in one place. LYNDEM
EDUTAINMENT is the perfect form of play for our growing and highly
impressionable children.
Bassey’s vision for this form of
play extends atleast 5 years from now. Within this time, there will be another
arm of LYNDEM that specializes in games that exercise the body (exergaming). So
my picture of races, bikes and X-box may not be totally off after all.
Tickets go for N300 per hour
for a child, N250 each (per hour) for two children and N200 per child (per hour)
for a group of four children. I’m getting tickets for my
neighbour’s kids aged 5 and 2. It’s a great End-of-the-Year gift and best way to persuade
their parents to take them to LYNDEM. When they go back home, I’m convinced the
smiles on their faces will tell the story.
