Federal government is planning to stop consumers of cooking gas ownership of the gas cylinder.

Have you heard?

Federal government is planning to stop consumers of cooking gas' ownership of the gas cylinder.

In imitation of the countries around us and in addition to claims about safety as basis for this cooking gas policy, Brenda Ataga, the Senior Technical Assistant to the Minister  of State for Petroleum Resources on Downstream and Infrastructure, made this known at a stakeholders meeting on LPG penetration in Abuja on Tuesday.

The policy aims to expand the user base of cooking case consumers and removing the cost of the gas cylinders by resting their ownership strictly on dealers and distributors of cooking gas. This situation is comparable to the Coca-cola company practice of taking back empty bottles in crates while supplying new ones to customers because what they paid for is only the liquid content.

The federal Government has already reached an agreement with 2 gas cylinder manufacturers to deliver 600,000 cylinders to dealers and distributors of LPG on a pre-payment plan for 18 months.

Roadside gas sellers have been advised to key into the policy by presenting themselves as micro distributors to avoid illegality and clamp down. Read more here.
