Federal High Court declares Shiites a terrorist group







Following the violence that ensued from the Shiites latest protest in Abuja where a police DCP Umar was shot dead and NEMA property burnt, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has issued an order proscribing the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) also known as Shiites a terrorist group. Like IPOB proscription, Nigerians have been mixed in their views. While some laud this development, others think the Shiites are an unarmed group and the label of terrorist is too heavy-handed. Buhari to herdsmen: Ignore calls to return to the North





Still on RUGA, some communities in Southern Nigeria have restricted the sale of land to a few plots only in order to make sure that the plans for Ruga is not implemented through the backdoor. There has also been talk that herdsmen have been asked to vacate these communities and return to the North. The Presidency, however, has ssked that such calls be ignored as there is a constitutional right for every Nigerian to live anywhere in the country. Read it at theGuardian.  



Senate confirms Tanko Muhammad as Chief Justice of Nigeria




Following the controversial removal and later resignation of the then CJN, Walter Onnoghen, the Senate has now confirmed the judge who replaced Onnoghen then in an acting capacity as the new Chief Justice of Nigeria. 

Police to charge Senator Elisha Abbo for assault



According to the Punch newspaper, barring any last minute withdrawal, the Police will this week charge trending Senator Elisha Abbo for allegedly assaultng a nursing mother at a sex-toy shop here in Abuja. The Senate has also condemned the serving senator for the alleged assault which took place at the Wuse axis of Abuja on May 11. Read more 


Kidnapped Daura District Head freed after 3 months


The district head of President Buhari's hometown in Daura, Alhaji Musa Umar-Uba, who was kidnapped 3 months ago has been rescued in Kano by a combined team of security operatives. There was a serious gun battle with his captors but the district head was freed in good health and looks forward to reuniting with his family. Read it at theNAN.

An insider source, not willing to be named, has said that surprises await Nigerians as PMB's nominees undergo security checks. Only the president and vice-president Yemi Osinbajo, know the details of every nominee that made the final list. Supreme Court dismisses Senator Adeleke's petition

The much awaited Supreme Court decision in the case of Senator Ademola Adeleke (Davido's uncle who is also known as the dancing senator) and the current Governor of Osun state,  Oyetola, has been aanounced in favour of the incumbent Governor. The petition by Senator Adeleke was dismissed on a technical ground because the lead judge who read the judgement was absent from one of the proceedings. The Supreme Court is of the view that the Election Petition Tribunal should have started the petition afresh after the absence of the judge in one of the proceedings. Read it at DailyTrust.


Court Orders Permanent Forfeiture Of $8.4million, N9.3billion Linked To Patience Jonathan


A Federal High Court on Monday in Lagos ordered the permanent forfeiture of US$8.4 million and N9.2 billion linked to former first lady, Patience Jonathan for being proceeds of unlawful activities. The decision was made upon an application from EFCC and the judge held that the evidence presented by the defence were conflicting. The judge further ordered that the monies be paid into the CBN and the Federal Government's account. Read it at Channels.

We will sell grasses to Herdsmen - South-east Governors

In a new move that is being lauded by many comments online as the best news so far, the farmers herdsmen clashes may be headed for a permanent solution this time without bloodshed. This is because the South East Governors Forum speaking through their chairman, Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, just revealed that though there is no land for Ruga settlements in the states, they are willing to sell the much needed grasses to the herdsmen in the North in exchange for beef. In view of this, the trucks or trains that carry cows to the South can now return with grasses grown near the abbatoir or markets for feeding the cows in ranches in the North.  Read it at Thisdaylive.
