The alarming increase in the price of major commodities such as food items and other everyday needs in Nigeria has brought a huge decrease in the demand for goods in Kubwa Market, leaving Traders in fear.
A report from our correspondence, who did a general market survey and interviewed some of the Traders in Kubwa Market reveals that Traders are not happy about the high cost of food items as it's seriously affecting their sales and leaves the market almost void of customers to buy their goods. Most residents of Kubwa now rather go to far villages within the territory of Abuja, where food items are sold at cheaper prices to buy in order to save cost. One of the Market Traders known as Miss Fatima, disclosed in the interview that a 'mudu of foreign rice' that was previously sold for N800 just few months ago is now sold for N1200, while local rice is between N900 to N1000, from the previous price of N600. On the other hand, a sachet tomato that was previously sold for N70 is now sold for N150. The traders fear that the price might get worst during this festive period, though they have their fingers crossed as they pray and beg the Federal Government to invest more into Nigerian Agricultural Sector.
