10 women known as the Able women led the effort to raise funds and fix a road leading into their community in Byazhin Across, a Community in Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as the road became inaccessible.
The women were led by Khadijat Yunusa, the Chairlady, and Bola Shitta, the Women leader, as they began the fight to rescue the road in 2019, after the men, Landlords Association, charged with the task could not account for the resources put together for the course on several occasions. The Able women would stand by the roadside, collecting money from "okada and Keke riders", to fix the roads in their neighbourhood. Their hard work has created a motorable road and has seen them help deliver two babies on the road. “These women started this work two years ago, as their name, Able Women, they showed us, the men in this community the way to properly achieve something,” Mr Samuel, a resident of Byazhin said.
