President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba, has said Nigerians cannot afford the increase in the pump price of petrol, because of geometric increase of unemployment and inflation rate in the country.
This is following a statement by the Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari, in Abuja on Thursday, saying petrol is currently being subsidised at between N100 billion and N120 billion on a monthly basis, and that it is no longer sustainable for the Federal Government to spend such a huge amount in subsidising petrol.
