General Lucky Irabor, the Chief of Defence Staff, on Friday described illegal bearers of AK 47 as enemies of the country, and deserved to be shot on sight as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Irabor, an indigene of Delta State, on his first visit to the state since his appointment, told reporters in Asaba that presidential directive to shoot on sight anyone with an AK-47 rifle was very clear and must be enforced. He said the proliferation of illegal arms in the country was a threat to Nigeria’s corporate existence, adding that the armed forces and other security agencies are the only institutions that are mandated to carry arms in the course of their duties.
