News report on the matter today is to the effect that the four-man police panel investigating the former Head of Intelligence Response Team, DCP Abba Kyari, is headed by the Deputy Inspector -General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Joseph Egbunike, who is a buddy of the embattled DCP.
Before the panel submitted its findings to the IG on Monday,DCP Kyari had appeared several times before the panel in a friendly atmosphere and he dismissed the allegations of conniving with fraudster Hushpuppi to defraud a Qatari businessman. It is also the news that the report submitted by the panel last week Thursday or Friday was rejected by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, for being too lenient on Kyari and he was not comfortable with the panel’s findings and recommendations. The panel has now submitted the amended report to the IG.
