Senator Dino Melaye (SDM) has finally surrendered to the police after 1 week of police siege at his residence in abuja. He is accused of culpable homicide, an allegation which he has denied. The police siege which lasted about 7 days included cutting off electricity supply to the senator's home and spraying tear gas to make him surrender.
Some of the senator's colleagues reportedly visited him today and he drove off with them to the office of the Inspector-General of Police.
SDM had earlier on applied to the law court for an order to end the siege but the court refused to order the police to leave.
