Why NBC Shutdown AIT & RayPower

As you know, the management of Daar Communication PLC and owners of both AIT and Raypower, raised alarm last week alleging a planned government clampdown.

Kick starting this planned clampdown was some warning letters from NBC to AIT citing 'treasonable rhetoric' and failure to comply with the guidelines in the broadcasting laws of Nigeria as the reason for the impending government clampdown.

See one letter below:

After which, AIT and Raypower have had their licences suspended indefinitely.

The management and board of Daar Communication PLC,  states however that it believes it is being punished for reports, news, commentaries and documentaries perceived to be hostile, negative or unfavourable to the current administration, especially via its widely watched Kaakaki social.

It is also noteworthy that this clampdown is happening the very next day after AIT aired "Battle for the Soul of the Nation-The PDP/Atiku Presidential Election Petition", a docu-feature, detailing the basis for the PDP/Atiku Petition at the 2019 Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

The African Independent Television (AIT) premiered this edition on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, by 7:00pm.

Atiku Abubakar, the PDP and Mike Ozekhome SAN have notably condemned the FG clampdown on AIT/Raypower with Atiku calling it dictatorial.
