Following the slapping scandals of weeks past, Brekete Family Programme is to go Off Air as Human Rights Radio has been suspended by the authorities from broadcasting as sanctions for recurring unprofessional conducts . The suspension would last for 30 days, during which it was expected that Human Rights Radio would put its house in order and become responsive, professional and responsible in its broadcasting.
The Nigerian Broadcasting Commission stated that the action of the broadcaster of the Human Rights Radio is in clear violations of the Broadcasting Code and a betrayal of the confidence reposed on him by the people and Government of Nigeria on whose behalf he holds the radio license in trust. The Acting Director-general of NBC also revealed that the station would pay a recommencement fee of N5 million, as provided for in Section 15.5.1 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
