Forensic Assets Investigation and Recovery Services LLC (FAIR), the US assets recovery firm has traced $69bn (about N28.3tn) gotten from illegal oil deals by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to different Texas bank accounts.
The money was allegedly by the NNPC officials and their collaborators in the Central Bank of Nigeria.
It is out of this stash, believed to have been siphoned from undeclared crude oil sales under the Goodluck Jonathan administration, that the $9bn allegedly belonging to the late National Security Adviser, General Andrew Azazi, was traced to a Texas bank account. FAIR says it can recover the $9bn in about 3 months if its charges and compensation would be paid upon recovery.
