Barely a year after Nigeria was certified Polio free, outbreak occurs in FCT, 13 States

Vaccine Derived Poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2) is causing an alarm of re emergence of the wild Polio virus again in Nigeria.

In addition to the vaccine derived type, refusal to take th polio vaccine and incomplete vaccination is also traced to the cause of the resurgence.

Since the last known case of Polio in 2016, Nigeria finally joined other African countries in enjoying a wild polio free status. That is, until the announcement on July 5 by the Executive Director of National Primary Healthcare Development Agency NPHCDA, of the surge in the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Abia, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Jigawa, Kano, Kebbi, Lagos, Niger, Rivers, Sokoto, Yobe and Zamfara States.
