The coronavirus pandemic is 'not necessarily the big one', a more deadly virus could yet sweep the globe, the World Health Organization (WHO) warns.
Dr. Mike Ryan, head of the WHO emergencies programme, speaking on Tuesday, said the pandemic was a 'wake-up call'. "This pandemic has been very severe, it has affected every corner of this planet. But this is not necessarily the big one,' he told a media briefing. Ryan also said that the virus was likely to remain part of our lives despite the introduction of vaccines, as the existence of a vaccine, even at high efficacy, is no guarantee of eliminating or eradicating an infectious disease.
