Credit has started flowing to one person broadly acknowledged as most responsible for Georgia’s new status as a Democratic state: Stacey Abrams.
This is happening even as the Democrat Rev. Raphael Warnock has won and Jon Ossoff is leading as they are set to flip Georgia’s two Senate seats from the incumbent Republicans,
Other black women worked for this big change but Ms. Abrams is widely considered the loudest voice and she is at the moment one of the most influential American politicians not in elected office. Her political infrastructure and strategy of increasing turnout among the state’s Black, Latino and Asian voters laid the groundwork for both President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s victory in November and the Democrats’ performance in the Senate races of today. She is also expected to run for governor again in 2022.
