To serve as mediator between the people and government, natives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have said that arrangement has been concluded to conduct an election that would elect a Mayor for FCT.

Candidates for the position of Mayor must have been resident in the city of Abuja for at least 10 years and ppssibly having contributed to the city’s coffers through payment of tax. The Mayor would lead alongside 62 other councillors.
