Johnson's Journal
So I saw a news last week about how a Punch Reporter was Kidnapped in our very own Kubwa. Today a customer at a phone store was telling the Staff, the reason she’s buying a new phone is because she was kidnapped and a ransom of 7 million was paid for her release. These are just few out of the numerous atrocities been committed around Kubwa.
I can still recall a few, a familiar face in my neighborhood was recently mugged just in front of Asher Hotel along Sultan Dasuki Way, around 10:30pm. He was stabbed twice and his phone and wallet were taken. In fact, Kubwa, a once secure area has become a playing field for robbers and petty thieves. You can’t even leave your valuable outside your compound at night and have a 100% assurance of seeing it in the morning. A day hardly goes by without you hearing that something got stolen.
The one that shocked the neighborhood the most happened when a Bet Shop operator was robbed by men armed with cutlass and local weapons. Of course the Police came and said a lot of things but we all know how that usually play out. My area in Kubwa is now being guarded by youths in the area while compounds that can’t provide a volunteer would pay a small amount to support the vigilantes. Great power comes with great responsibility, Kubwa has taken a place of power among many neighboring towns and this has its pros and cons. Yes we all love how fast Kubwa is developing But this development has come with some little hiccups. Most businesses are paying a hefty price for this rise in insecurity. A pharmacy/supermarket along Gado Nasko road was robbed by heavy armed men around 9:55PM (yes, that early). Their CCTV cameras got footage of this incident but I don’t know how much effort is being put in place to capture the perpetrators.
Kubwa like any other town has had its own share of criminal activity but Kubwa has always been a relatively safe place to stay. Criminal activities has definitely increased in recent times. If the Local Government is really interested in making Kubwa "the marvel its destined to be", there has to be an increase in security. The Police and other security agencies are obviously doing what they can but with the way things are starting to turn out, more efforts has to be put in place because if not done; the insecurity persists. Businesses would be deeply affected and that would have massive effects on the outlook of Kubwa, if you understand what I’m saying.
And finally for areas that have been experiencing petty thieving and low level robberies, I would advise to get vigilantes too as the Police may not always be at your urgent disposal;at least have a first line of defense. A street meeting can be held to put this measure in place (this is my two cents worth regarding the issue).
God keep us all.
