After 66 days in detention, Police to arraign 22-year old Gloria Okolie as IPOB Spy

Following a public outcry generated by her family which went viral on social media on Wednesday and the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, ordering a probe into the matter, Gloria Okolie, has been accused by the Police of acting as an intermediary, who receives cash, drugs and weapons on behalf of the Indigenous People of Biafra. The police first detained her for 66 days as a girlfriend of a suspected IPOB member on June 17, 2021, but the police kept her whereabouts secret. The Director General of Behind Bars Initiative, Harrison Gwamnishu, posted Okolie’s unlawful detention on Facebook alleging that she has been turned into a ‘maid,’ washing clothes and cooking food at the IRT office in Owerri. The IRT officers allegedly extorted her family too and denied them access to see Glory before she was to the unit’s headquarters in Abuja. According to a statement on Sunday signed by the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aremu Adeniran, she has now been accused of being an IPOB spy and will face trial once investigations are concluded.
