Best time to end this is now – President Biden addresses the world on Afghanistan

The 46th President of the United States, fifth president since US presence in Afghanistan, just addressed the world on what is happening in Afghanistan. He says he stands by his decision to withdraw the US troops from the country and that if anything the developments of the last week suggests that the best time to end this is now. He said America gave Afghans every chance to fight for their future, but what they could not provide them with was the will to fight for their country. He was also sure that China and Russia would love to see the US spending billions without success on Afghanistan and those are the mistakes they cannot continue to repeat. He said he had frank talks with the fleeing Afghan President, Ghani about civil wars to follow after US withdrawal until corruption is rooted out and the country works for Afghans. He also acknowledged how painful this is for those who have lost loved ones. But after he went from Kabul to Kandahar, met with the people and troops, he realised what was possible or not possible with Afghanistan. There would only be “endless military deployments” and it is not fair for US troops to fight for Afghanistan if Afghans would not. Addressing the issue of why the evacuating of Afghans civilians didn’t happen soon he said partly because some Afghans did not want to leave, they were still hopeful for their country.

As for the future, the US President says the US has taken over the airspace and successfully shut down their embassy and will continue to deploy and move persons out of Afghanistan to safe places, including special visas for qualified afghans in the coming days and if the Taliban attack the us troop or disrupt their operations, the us presence will be swift and forceful”. The US will also maintain a laser focus on its count-terrorism missionin Afghan and other parts of the world. The 46th President of the United States, fifth president since US presence in Afghanistan, just addressed the world on what is happening in Afghanistan.
