U.S. Senators put a hold on major arms sale to Nigeria over human rights concern

 


U.S. Senators are quietly pressing President Joe Biden to reassess U.S.-Nigeria relations amid human rights concerns. This is also the reason why there are putting on hold a proposed sale of attack helicopters to Nigeria even though the deal is worth about $875 million. The arms deal includes helicopters, 28 helicopter engines produced by GE Aviation, 14 military-grade aircraft navigation systems made by Honeywell, and 2,000 advanced precision kill weapon systems—laser-guided rocket munitions. The hold may remain until the US makes a broader assessment of the extent to which corruption and civilian casualties are handled in Nigeria.
