FG insists on sanctions over diplomat's assault, recalls Nigerian Ambassador to Indonesia

Following a viral video of Indonesian immigration officers assaulting a Nigerian Diplomat in front of his official quarters in Jakarta in Indonesia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama,  reacting to the incident, has written a protest letter demanding sanctions against the erring Indonesian officials. In the video, the Diplomat named Ibrahim was being held down by the officers while he was saying "I can't breathe." Despite the fact that the Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria has apologised for the assault in Abuja after he was summoned by the minister and the immigration officers have also gone to the Nigerian embassy in Indonesia to apologise to the Ambassador and the Diplomat assaulted, the Nigerian Ambassador to Indonesia has been recalled for consultations and the Federal Government is insisting on sanctions for the incident for violating the Vienna Convention. Some civil society organisations has also asked the federal government to sever ties with Indonesia.
