Following what it described as the worst outlook in four years, the United Nations (UN) announced in New York on Tuesday that it has set up a taskforce to help the 8.7 million people, including 2.2 million displaced persons, in urgent need of food in Northern Nigeria. This is according to a spokesperson for current Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres. The taskforce is to implement a comprehensive plan to cover food security, nutrition, health, protection, water, sanitation and hygiene. It is estimated to cost over $1 billion and only one-third of the fund has been raised.
