Schools in Kaduna to reopen September 12

 

According to the State Commissioner of Education, Dr Shehu Muhammad, who made the disclosure while participating in a virtual workshop organised by the Education Writers’ Association of Nigeria, Kaduna State Government has said schools across the state are expected to resume on Sunday, September 12, 2021.

DSS tells court that ‘One Chance’ snatched Igboho’s Aides’ Case File

 



TNL reports that when the matter was called on Wednesday, counsel to DSS, Mr Idowu Awo, said the file which contained the court processes served on the DSS by the aides was stolen from a member of the service legal team. Awo said the “one-chance’’ thieves snatched the case-file from his colleague, who unknowingly boarded their vehicle.

Jos curfew relaxed further, tricycles ban lifted




Punch reports that Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has further relaxed the curfew imposed earlier on Jos North Local Government Area of the state. This was contained in a statement on Tuesday night which also said the ban earlier placed on the operations of tricycles has been lifted. Recall that the governor had imposed a curfew in Jos North, Jos South and Bassa LGAs following an attack on a convoy of buses conveying some worshippers returning to Ondo after attending an Islamic programme in Bauchi which left 22 travellers dead and 14 others injured.

Nnamdi Kanu sues FG for an apology and N5 billion damages for his extradition back to Nigeria

Honourable Justice K. C. J Okereke of Abia State High Court, on Tuesday, granted the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, an order to serve by substituted means, an application for enforcement of his Fundamental Rights. Mazi Kanu is demanding,  among other things, to be returned to Kenya where he was “abducted”, and subsequently Britain his country of abode before the federal government would apply for his repatriation. He is also demanding an apology from the federal government and N5 billion damages for the manner in which he was extradited back to Nigeria.

Service Chiefs briefed the President today at State House, Abuja

The Service Chiefs have briefed the President over the successes recorded so far by the security agencies in the fight against insurgents, bandits, kidnappers, and other criminal elements in various parts of the country. The National Security Adviser (NSA), Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd), who briefed State House reporters after the meeting, said President Muhammadu Buhari is very happy with the successes achieved so far. Also in attendance were Minister of Defence, General Bashir Magashi (retd), Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, and the service chiefs led by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor.

Anambra to continue only online pre-registration of voters


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed during the commission’s 3rd quarterly meeting with leaders of political parties on Monday, in Abuja, that it has suspended in-person or physical registration of voters in Anambra, to continue only online pre-registration of voters in the state. Gunmen reportedly kill 18 people in Keke, Kaduna State

Gunmen reportedly invaded Keke, a community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, around midnight and 18 people have been kidnapped. According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen arrived in a large number, creating chaos before kidnapping the eighteen people.

Chidinma Ojukwu, her sister and one other ordered to face trial for the murder of the late CEO of Super TV

The trial of Chidinma Ojukwu  before the state high court for the murder of Usifo Ataga, the late CEO of Super TV has been ordered by a magistrate court in Yaba, Lagos. The court also ordered that one Adedapo Quadri and Chioma Egbuchu, Chidinma’s sister, found in possession of Ataga’s iPhone 7, should face trial for possessing stolen items.

Buhari appoints Ifedayo Adetifa as New NCDC DG

New variant of COVID-19, called Mu, may be resistant to current vaccines - WHO

DCLVB football academy is scouting for players and coaches for top European clubs



DCLVB football academy is reportedly set to hold a 3-day screening exercise scheduled to start on 15 October and end on 18 October at Area 3 Playing Field and Papal Ground along Kubwa –Kaduna Expressway. They are said to be looking for 18 players aged 18-22 years and 2 coaches. 20 scouts from top European clubs will assess them for possible travel to Holland and opportunity to sign professional contracts. According to Jeremiah Imongan, the Country repesentative of DCLVB, “the programme will offer opportunities  to … access free training and trials for European club sides. Accommodation, feeding and training kits will be provided for the players during the screening exercise.

NDDC Audit: 13,777 aabandoned projects and 362 irreconciled accounts discovered - Malami

The report on the forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has been received on behalf of President  by minister of Justice and attorney-general of the federation,  Aubakar Malami, SAN. President Muhammadu Buhari, in 2019, ordered a forensic audit of NDDC’s operations from 2001 to 2019. Then-acting managing director of the commission, Kemebradikumo Pondei,  was sacked over allegations of mismanagement of funds and the president appointed Effiong Akwa as the new head of the agency in December 2020. According to Malami, in spite of the huge resources made available to uplift the living standard of Niger Delta people there are over 13,777 uncompleted and unverified development projects in the Niger Delta Region and 362 accounts belonging to the NDDC were not properly reconciled.

Also, approximately N6 trillion was given to the Commission for the period investigated. The federal government says it will prosecute those behind the alleged mismanagement of funds meant for the development of the Niger Delta region.

NDA attacked by bandits


Nigeria’s foremost military institution, the Nigerian Defence Academy, in Afaka, Kaduna has been attacked by gunmen killing two officers – identified as Lieutenant Wulah and Flight Lieutenant Okoronkwo. Some others sustained gunshot injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the NDA hospital while a senior officer was abducted.

Resuscitate grazing reserves only in states where the people are interested - Gov. Tambuwal to President Buhari


Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Monday advised President Muhammadu Buhari to resuscitate grazing reserves only in states or areas where the people were interested as against reinventing grazing reserves in the country because open pastoralism is not in the interest of even the Fulani herdsmen.

The Governor said so in Lagos during the 63rd Birthday lecture of Mr. Richard Akinnola, a renowned journalist and author. He also said that it is high time Nigeria had a rethink on open grazing.

Court orders Resident Doctors to suspend the strike until its final judgement


In his ruling on Monday, Justice John Targema of the National Industrial Court, Abuja division, has ordered the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) to suspend its ongoing nationwide strike commenced on August 1 to protest against inadequate allowances, irregular payment of salaries, among others.

This is following federal government’s lawsuit, filed against the association, asking the court for an order of interlocutory injunction restraining members of NARD from continuing with the industrial action. By the order, both parties are to suspend all forms of hostilities and return to the state of things before the strike until the final determination of the matter pending before the court.

After 66 days in detention, Police to arraign 22-year old Gloria Okolie as IPOB Spy



Following a public outcry generated by her family which went viral on social media on Wednesday and the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, ordering a probe into the matter, Gloria Okolie, has been accused by the Police of acting as an intermediary, who receives cash, drugs and weapons on behalf of the Indigenous People of Biafra. The police first detained her for 66 days as a girlfriend of a suspected IPOB member on June 17, 2021, but the police kept her whereabouts secret. The Director General of Behind Bars Initiative, Harrison Gwamnishu, posted Okolie’s unlawful detention on Facebook alleging that she has been turned into a ‘maid,’ washing clothes and cooking food at the IRT office in Owerri. The IRT officers allegedly extorted her family too and denied them access to see Glory before she was to the unit’s headquarters in Abuja. According to a statement on Sunday signed by the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aremu Adeniran, she has now been accused of being an IPOB spy and will face trial once investigations are concluded.
